As Shiji recently got accepted in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Travel Competency program, we were tapped to create a report looking at how hotels can approach the question of changing their technology stack. The result is our report, “Understanding Risks in Hotel Technology & Security.”
The full 5 page report is available for download here.
In the report, we look at the factors that can help a hotel determine whether they should maintain their current tech stack or invest in new solutions. It’s a common predicament where businesses must judge whether the common potential upsides of increased productivity, efficiency, better guest experience, and access to new channels outweigh the common potential downsides of initial upfront or recurring expenses, training, operational redesign, et cetera, and that’s not even mentioning the ever-evolving risk (on both sides) of cyber security. When compared to other industries, hospitality has one of the higher rates of security breaches.
But, beyond the security risks there are financial “risks” that weigh in. What are the costs to maintain the legacy (on premise) systems versus newer cloud based solutions. Higher capex but lower maintenance fees for legacy systems. While the trend and future is most definitely to move to cloud based systems, having experience in both, experts at Shiji believe it would be good to take a high level view of the two.
The report covers:
- The hospitality industry’s tech vulnerabilities
- What role tech providers play in keeping their customers and customers’ guests safe
- The risk legacy systems can pose
- How cloud-based technology can help
- Understanding data residency and the importance of knowing where your data “lives”
- The risks of investing in new technology
